17th mission: Konitsa

Axion Hellas successfully completed its 17th mission in Konitsa from November 20th to 24th, 2024, with the participation of 143 volunteers and the support of 12 significant donors. This mission aimed to support the local community by improving the quality of life for the 5,000 residents in the area through free medical services, cultural and educational activities, as well as infrastructure projects.

Medical Services:

A team of 61 specialized doctors from 22 medical fields provided over 2,700 medical examinations using state-of-the-art equipment.

  • Residents examined: More than 620
  • Mammograms: 110 conducted with the Mobile Digital Mammography Unit of the Hellenic Cancer Society
  • Preventive dental screenings for students: 80 elementary school students
  • Ophthalmological exams: Conducted with the Mobile Ophthalmology Unit donated by Professor Ioannis Pallikaris

Educational & Cultural Activities:

Over the course of three days, 12 educational activities and 4 cultural events were held, engaging:

  • 380 students and 740 adults, with over 2,980 total participations.

These activities were implemented in collaboration with 10 institutions, artists, and athletes, and included:

  • Art workshops by the National Museum of Contemporary Art and MOMus
  • STEM programs by the Psychico College
  • Awareness initiatives such as "Safe Touch" by the Eliza Society and "Respecting Diversity" by the Association of Greek Olympians
  • Sports activities with Panagiotis Vasilopoulos and Giorgos Karagounis
  • Cultural and entertainment events, including theatrical performances, stand-up comedy, and musical evenings by the Athens Conservatory and the Konitsa Conservatory

Major Infrastructure Projects During the 17th Mission

  1. Playground: The first playground in the Municipality of Konitsa was completed in just 14 days, thanks to the generous donation of the KIKPE Foundation and Axion Hellas.
  2. Children’s Library & Physics Lab Equipment: A fully equipped children’s library with furniture and books in both Greek and English was delivered. Additionally, Psychico College donated modern equipment for physics laboratories.
  3. Digital Infrastructure: Computers and digital technology equipment were donated to two local schools by Navarino.
