Completion of an emergency action Axion Hellas in cooperation with EODY
Axion Hellas' emergency action in cooperation with the National Public Health Organization (EODY), in order to provide diagnostic tests for Covid-19 to residents of 15 small islands of the Aegean, was successfully completed.
The action lasted from 5 to 12 June, during which more than 1000 nautical miles were covered.
EODY officials assisted by more than 30 volunteer doctors and nurses of Axion Hellas performed blood sampling for antibody testing and pharyngeal swabs for molecular testing on the residents of Anafi, Koufonisi, Schinoussa, Herakleia, Donousa, Amorgos, Kinaro, Patmos, Agathonisi, Arki, Lipsi, Pserimos, Tilos, Kastelorizo and Halki. The staff of EODY and the team of volunteers of Axion Hellas were assisted by the Deputy Minister of Health Vassilis Kontozamanis and the President of EODY Panagiotis Arkoumanes with their physical presence for a few days.
The aim of the action was to capture the epidemiological picture of the situation of our islands by providing free diagnostic tests to the residents, without having to move from their place, as well as to strengthen the feeling of security and solidarity in the new challenges they have to face in the post-quarantine era and in view of the start of the tourist season. The reception given to the mission by the islanders was very moving and demonstrated their appreciation for actions of contribution and substance.
On the island of Kastelorizo, a high-tech and ecological electricity generator was inaugurated by the wife of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Mareva Grabovski-Mitsotakis. The generator, which is kindly sponsored by Mrs. Elena Amvrosiadou, was installed on the island after the actions of AHION HELLAS and will serve the needs of the Defense Command Camp (DAN) and will also provide electricity to the whole island!
In the same ceremony, the family of Athanasios and Marina Martinou was honored for their significant contribution through Axion Hellas in the reconstruction of the facilities of the Ro prison. The honorary plaque was received by Mrs Marina Martinou herself.
We would like to remind that the voluntary action of Axion Hellas is supported solely by its own and sponsored resources and has no state financial support.
Finally, AXION HELLAS would like to thank the Coast Guard for the constant support it offers in all our actions. Also, we would like to thank the companies Coral, Pharmaten, Intermed, Doric whose kind sponsorships covered part of the costs of this action and the accommodation in Koufonisi "Roussetos" - Katerina Prasino, "Maria's Shack" - Michalis Kovaeos and "Kalli" rooms - Kalli Simou.
