Axion Hellas volunteers provide aid to the flood-stricken residents of Central Greece

Witnessing with sorrow the biblical-scale catastrophe that struck Thessaly, Axion Hellas promptly responded to an urgent appeal from the Ministry of Health, along with other volunteer organizations, to provide aid (food, medication, first aid supplies) and participate in the rescue efforts for our fellow citizens trapped in the flooded areas.

In less than 12 hours, Axion Hellas' sailing team members gathered four small inflatable boats.  These boats, along with their operators and three volunteers from the medical team, reached the affected areas in the Karditsa Prefecture and were placed at the disposal of the fire fighting brigade. They have been operating in coordination with other forces present there since yesterday afternoon. A similar team was formed and sent by Symplefsis, thus setting an example of coordinated volunteer action involving different groups to maximize their contribution to society.

The Axion Hellas team participating in the operations consists of:

  • 9 individuals
  • 4 boats
  • 3 vehicles

Members/operators of floating vehicles:

  • Panos Tsikopoulos
